Share Your Journal Secrets
Personal Journaling accepts feature submissions
of 1,000-2,500 words. Topics include:
- how-to/technique on the journaling or personal writing
craft, i.e., journal writing, journal making, memoir writing, letter writing,
how to combine art with writing, and writing in various mediums: online,
e-mail, paper
- inspirational personal accounts of a personal writing
experience that emphasizes writing as a means to self-fulfillment, healing,
growth, transition, comfort or celebration
- articles that explore issues particular to journalers:
privacy and trespasses against that privacy, storage, preservation, leaving
as legacies for future generations, sharing journals, sharing journals
- articles that provide further journal-keeping ideas,
i.e., niche or theme journals, as well as inspiration for the generation
of content in journals they already keep, i.e. creative prompts and ideas
on livening up your entries
How to Submit
Freelance submissions for features are accepted via snail mail; send to Katie
DuMont, editor, Personal Journaling magazine, 1507 Dana Ave., Cincinnati
OH 45207. Both queries and unsolicited manuscripts are accepted, although
queries are preferred. Please submit only one query at a time and allow us
6-8 weeks for us to review your proposal. If we like your proposal, we may
either assign the article to you or ask to see a a more detailed query before
we make a final decision. Each submission must include name, address, daytime
telephone number and e-mail address. Please wait for a response before sending
another submission. All submissions must include SASE—self-addressed stamped
envelope or e-mail address if you would like to receive a response.
Payment ranges between 30-50 cents per word, on acceptance,
for first world rights for one-time use and non-commercial electronic use.
Should we want to reprint anything we've purchased from you, in other than
electronic format, we'll pay you 25% of the original purchase for each use.
Contributor copies are sent to all writers.
